Shameless scammers are targeting the poor with a particularly heinous scam that aims to steal from people in need.
They are sending texts like this :
The scammers claim that your EBT food benefits card is locked and you must call the number provided to get help.
However, according to warnings from the government, these crooks will ask you for your card and PIN number and then use that information to steal benefits.
These crooks are counting on you to panic and provide your information before you have time to think.
There are also scams where they claim you’ve won a prize and must share a picture of your EBT card to collect. Either way, you lose your benefits.
Do not provide your information to people you don’t know. If you think you’ve fallen for a scam, contact your local SNAP office immediately.
