5 Million Social Security Numbers Exposed

Close to 5 million Social Security numbers were exposed by a data breach against a lending company TMX Finance.

TMX Finance, the company behind multiple lending companies, including, TitleMax, TitleBucks, and InstaLoan operates more than 900 locations across the company.

The company notified the Maine Attorney General that a hacker was able to access and possibly take private customer data from their network, including names, Social Security numbers, date of birth, name, address, phone number, bank information, passport numbers, driver’s license numbers, state and federal ID card numbers, and tax identification numbers,

The company believes the breach happened last December, but they did not notice the suspicious activity on their servers until mid-February.

Customers affected by this breach are at a much higher risk of identity theft and of being targeted by scammers. TMX says it has already notified customers affected by the incident.
