Use dictation in Window 11

With Windows 11, you can do a whole lot with your voice. If you have mobility or vision issues, or just don’t feel like typing, here’s a shortcut you’ll want to know.

To use dictation, open a program like Note Pad or Word or click into the text field on a website. Press the Windows Key + H. The dictation box will appear.

The PC will make a little bloop and you’ll see Listening in the box. Or just click the microphone.

Start talking and your words should appear in the program.

This also works with email programs, web browsers and just about anything else where you might need to type.

  1. How very timely, I was just about to ask you if there is a way to do dictation with my computer. Hooray. Sometimes my thoughts come faster than I can type. I’m working on family history and it’s difficult to keep a flow and dictating makes a smoother process.
