Saving Word Document As Jpeg

Hi, Scottie.  Thanks for the great question!

There are several ways to change a Word document to a JPEG, but I do want to warn you that, once you do, you can no longer edit the document.  If you’re simply looking for a way to change a Word document to an image file, a better way would be to save the document as a PDF, which will allow you to continue to edit the document.  This can be done easily by using Word’s SAVE AS feature.  But, if you still want to save the document as a JPEG, here are the ways to do that.

Probably the easiest, because it’s available to anyone with a Windows-based PC, is to use screen capture.  In order to do that, open the Word document on your desktop, and press CTRL and PRT SC on your keyboard.

This will capture whatever is on your screen to the clipboard.  In order to save it as a JPEG, open Paint or whatever your favorite image processing software is, and click PASTE.  That will give you an image that looks like this:

Then simply click SAVE AS, choose JPEG, name your new image whatever you’d like and save it where you want it.  Once again, though, once you save it you will no longer be able to edit it.  This will also only capture whatever happens to be on your screen, so if you want an entire page, this would probably not be the best method.

The next method, if you have Windows 7 or later is to use the SNIPPING TOOL.  I am using Windows 8, and I found it by using the search box.  With Windows 7, it will be under your accessories.  In order to do this, open your word document and zoom out until you see all of the text that you want to convert to a JPEG, and then open the Snipping Tool.  The window for the tool will look like this:

Select NEW and you’ll receive a prompt to select the area that you want to snip.  Click and drag over the section that you want to save.  Once you’re done selecting, click FILE and SAVE AS JPEG, and save your document. 

The final method would be to use a file converter.  There are many free online file converters, such as Zamzer, as well as stand-alone programs like AVS document converter.  Some of these stand-alones are free, some come with a charge.
