My most requested tip these days is for more information on how to use the Zoom video conferencing service. Everyone from people working at home to families trying to stay in touch is using it. Many of you want to understand it better. Let’s take a look at how it works.
The basics:
- Zoom is free
- You can use with a browser on your PC or Mac
- You can download the app for your phone or tablet
To make a video call, your device needs:
- A camera that faces the user
- A microphone
You also have the option of making an audio-only call.
Smartphones, tablets, and laptops will have built-in cameras and microphones. Some desktops may require you to add a webcam or a microphone.
You will also need a high-speed Internet connection.
To use on a PC, start by clicking here to head to their website.
First-time users will need to sign up for an account.
The Zoom app will then download for your PC or Mac. Click on the execute file to begin installing the app.
Enter your email address or sign up with Google or Facebook. I know it says to enter your work email address but that’s only necessary if this is an account you’re using for work. If it’s for personal video calls, enter your home email address.
You’ll receive a confirmation email. Just click on it to activate the account.
Then enter your information.
On a phone or tablet, you’ll want to go to your app store and look for the Zoom app. Just tap to begin installation.
Follow the instructions to create an account.
Tomorrow, we’ll learn how to make a call!
On my Android phone, activated the account 3 times, but never got to a place to create a password.
